Belize

Arrived in Belize around 2 pm, and as you cross the border, you are in a large compound area known as the Free Zone. It means you can come in, shop go to one of several casinos, and go back to Mexico, without ever going through Belize customs. It is like a lot of border towns anywhere - loud, tacky, hustlers trying to get you to hire their services, and not any indication of what Belize the country is like. Everyone speaks perfect English, as is the case everywhere in Belize, so we dropped a couple of bucks at the casino, walked through "the zone" for a bit, and headed back to the Mexican border.

It turns out we only had to go to Puerto Juarez, a suburb of Cancun, to do our paperwork, and went back and forth between two buildings for over an hour just to find that out. So we now have papers we have to take to Puerto Juarez where we will get a sticker for another 6 months. When we are back in Canada, we will complete the process to get our FM3, which is kind of a snowbird visa which allows foreigners to stay in Mexico longer than 6 months. At that point we will be able to take off our BC plates and get plates and insurance in Mexico.
