On Monday, Nov. 3, we decided to drive to Belize, having chatted with a few people this week about our Mexican visa sticker for our car. Like the RV, we thought the car had a 10 year sticker, but alas, it was only for the last trip and expired in September. We thought before the police stopped us and impounded our car that we would just do what was suggested - drive across the border in Belize, come back through Mexican customs and get a new sticker. Highways in the Yucatan penninsula are awesome - mostly 4 lane, but even the 2 lane ones are good. We left at 9:30 Monday morning and were past Tulum as far as Bacalar by noon. When the Mexicans need to widen their roads, they just claw back a section of forest, grade it out, and add a couple more lanes, as you will see under construction here. In some places, both sides are being widened to 4 lanes, which is the plan all the way from Cancun to Chetumal, the capital, eventually. We passed through towns large and small, all with copious topes (speedbumps) and often women selling fresh cut pineapple, buns, orange juice and whathaveyou to munch along the trip.
