After we finished at the border between Belize and Mexico, we drove a short 20 minutes to Chetumal, the capital of Quintana Roo, the state we live in. Found a nice hotel called the Casa Blanca, (king size bed, huge shower, clean as a whistle and 470 pesos a night (that's $47 Canadian). Had a nap, a great shower and walked into downtown for dinner. Ate at a restaurant attached to another hotel, and had a great dinner of fajitas, arrachara (marinated steak), and all the trimmings - guacamole, refried beans, salsa, green sauce (nice and hot) and fabulous margaritas. Walked back, had a wonderful sleep, and went back to the same restaurant for breakfast. The owner knows John Gray, who owns restaurants, in Puerto Morelos, Cancan and Playa del Carmen, so we promised to say hi to him from Eduardo. Chetumal is not a bad looking city, (nicer than Cancun!!) with treed medians and lots of great shops and restaurants. The waterfront promenade goes for miles and the big white building here is the main government head of the state.
Drove home to Puerto Morelos, with a stop at Telebodega in Playa to price our little washing machine and some end tables. Home by 5 just in time to watch the history making election results in the U.S. - hurray for Barack Obama and the rest of the world!!
